Drink Up: Rising Star Alex Jump on Reimagining Traditional Bar Concepts

Drink Up is a bi-monthly column created by Swig contributor Kristen Oliveri. In the column, she speaks to the world’s leading mixologists, bartenders, wine makers, beer makers, sippers and taste-testers who provide insights into where you try your next drink and what it should be.

Alex Jump isn’t your ordinary bar manager. For starters, she’s only 24 years old and is successfully running two bar programs for Main Street Meats and Easy Bistro & Bar in Tennessee. Instead of choosing a laid back lifestyle, Jump is committed to making her programs the best that they can be and is constantly honing her craft. She’s implemented innovative cocktail menus that feature modern twists on classic cocktails, one being the “Missing in Action” made with brown butter quinoa whiskey, Aperol, Amaro Montenegro/Yellow Chartreuse Cheater and lemon juice. She’s also been selected to be a “Camp Counselor” at Camp Runamok in Kentucky, a highly competitive cocktail camp, and participated on the varsity team for Portland Cocktail Week. You can also find her this year down in New Orleans at one of the industry’s biggest yearly events: Tales of the Cocktail. Swig contributor Kristen Oliveri sits down with Jump to learn how she brings all of her flavors together in more ways than one. Read more
